Is your patio in need of a good clean but you don’t have access to a power washer? Fear not as here at Helpling we have the best patio cleaning tips for you! Whether your patio is made from concrete, brick, stone, or cement, our cleaning tips will get your outside space shining again.
How to clean a patio with soapy water
If your patio isn’t looking too worse for wear, then soapy water should do the trick! Firstly tidy away any furniture and use a brush to remove any loose debris. Next, grab a bucket and mix up your soapy solution. Pour in a good helping of washing up liquid and fill the bucket with warm water. Once your soapy water is ready, simply pour it over the patio and grab a hard bristle brush to scrub away the dirt. Once you’re finished scrubbing, just rinse with clean water. A simple but super effective method!
How to clean a patio with vinegar
If you’ve been reading our Helpling blog for a while, then you’ll know that we love using household ingredients for cleaning. Vinegar can be used to clean so many items in and outside your home, and the patio is just another to add to the list. Vinegar is the perfect ingredient if you have any hard-set in stains on your patio!
Like when using soapy water, be sure to remove any furniture before you start cleaning. You don’t want to ruin it with the acidity of the vinegar! Then make up a solution of half water, half vinegar. We recommend cleaning your patio with vinegar on a sunny day as you will need to leave the solution to soak for around 20 minutes after applying it. Once the solution has soaked in, scrub away with a stiff brush. After you’ve finished brushing away any stains, spray with clean water. Make sure the patio is completely dry before putting your garden furniture back.
How to clean a patio with bleach
If you have a build-up of green algae on your patio, bleach is your new best friend. All you need to do is grab any household bleach and add 50:50 bleach and water to either a bucket or watering can. Apply the mixture evenly, making sure you avoid any furniture and plants!
Leave the solution to sit and work its magic for about five minutes, and then rinse thoroughly with clean water. Don’t forget to rinse your bucket or watering can too! Keep repeating this routine until your patio is algae-free.
